05′ Forward Beckner Commits to Backs

Salmon Arm B.C. — The Salmon Arm Silverbacks are excited to announce the commitment of 16-year-old forward Owen Beckner for the 2021-22 BCHL season.

The Victoria, B.C. native attended St. George’s School in Vancouver the past two years, playing for the bantam prep team in the 2019-20 season and for their U-17 prep team this past year. In a very shortened 2020-21 season, the 6’1″, 170 lb. forward recorded 6 goals and 7 points in just four games.

“Owen is an exceptional young player with a ton of potential that we are thrilled to have joining our program,” Silverbacks general manager Brooks Christensen said. “He’s gifted with the puck and is an elite skater. We see him as a major piece in our program, not only this year but for years to come.”

Beckner recorded 37 points (11G, 26A) in 30 games for the bantam prep team in the 2019-20 season, which ranked T-4th on his club. The left-shot forward was a 7th round pick of the Regina Pats in the 2020 WHL Bantam Draft.

“I’m very excited to continue my development with such a great organization and in an amazing hockey town like Salmon Arm,” Beckner said. “I look forward to contributing to the Silverbacks future success and cannot wait to step foot on the ice this coming September.”

The Silverbacks would like to welcome Owen to Salmon Arm!
